J.L.S. flies again
"Not since Jonathan Livingston Seagull has a book explored in such vivid and dramatic imagery the struggle toward ultimate truth and self-realization."
               — Alan Smithee, Jr.

Eyes to see
"If there is a common thread in my writing, it is the importance and difficulty of obtaining a larger perspective on life's challenges and purposes. We make our decisions with incomplete information, and should not be surprised when our choices turn out badly. Fortunately, God, the one with the largest, widest, and deepest possible perspective, will share that knowledge with us. Unfortunately, we rarely ask, assuming that our earth-bound view is the same as God's celestial panorama."  Kenny Kemp

Description
Oki, a young Polynesian fisherman, has left the safety of the lagoon to catch fish for the yearly ritual which takes place on the lip of the island's active volcano. But when a terrible storm comes up, Oki's outrigger is nearly capsized and Oki is certain God intends to drown him.

Then the storm ends and Oki looks around in shock: the islandthe only land he has ever knownis gone, and the empty horizon stretches in every direction.

Thus begins Oki's journey, a search for his own land and people that takes him far from both, to cultures and islands eerily similar, yet startlingly different, than his own.
